I was out of town this Sunday (you can read about my trip to LaCygne Christian Church here). Jonathan Shipman led at Life Church in Kirksville this week. Here's a recap from one of our other team leaders, Ruth Pingel (thanks Ruth!) --
1. Sing (Your Love) (Reuben Morgan, Hillsong, CCLI# 4222075) - Jon started out with chorus and bridge of this one, then moved on to...
2. You, You Are God (Walker Beach, Gateway Create Publishing, 4389918)
3. Let My Soul Cry Out (from our good friend Charity Long in Omaha) – people responded well to this.
4. Happy Day (Ben Cantelon/Tim Hughes, ThankYou Music, CCLI# 4847027) - It was a shock to do three fast songs. But it was so right for that morning and people LOVED it! Then Jon closed out with...
5. I Will Worship You (Matthew Ward, MCFM, CCLI# 3480320). The bridge on that song was really powerful.
Overall, it was a really good morning – it seemed like people were really touching God. With the lower overall volume, it seemed REALLY quiet to me where we were sitting, but quite comfortable when we went to the altar to dance. So maybe people who like it loud just need to get outta their seats and PRAISE THE LORD!!!
Our pastor, Tom Bedford gave everyone an update on his recent trip to Europe, then brought a message about living a life of conviction. He talked about relating to each other out of conviction, using the example of siblings relating to each other out of comfort, and how it makes them more likely to snap at each other and not act out of love, because they know they're stuck with each other. Marriages can be the same way. So, instead of letting ourselves be complacent with our love, we need to be convicted about how we treat each other – love your neighbor as yourself – really think about how we would treat ourselves or how we expect to be treated.
People came up front in response to an altar call, and asked God to change their hearts and help them see what love really was and how to live it.
Altar song was To Bring Glory, by me [Ruth Pingel] and Jon Shipman.
