My wife Lori, son Evan, and I have had an awesome weekend with Bread of Life Church in Fresno, CA, which you can read about here, so we missed out on what happened today at home at Life Church. But Ruth Pingel was kind enough to do a recap of that gathering for me - here it is:
We started today with an extended period of mingling and talking. Good times! I think people were just really excited to have everyone home from the Philippine mission trip, and it felt good to see all our friends again. Paul Shipman led worship this morning, and here was the list:
Great is the Lord (Lord we want to lift Your Name on high)
Sing to the King (Come let us sing a song...)
Let Everything that has Breath (Praise You in the morning)
All of my Life (My soul cries out...)
Rebecca Charles led Great is the Lord, and she did a great job! The band changed keys in between Great is the Lord and Sing to the King while keeping the music going. It was a cool transition that helped keep up the momentum from Great is the Lord.
After Let Everything that has Breath, our pastor, Tom, came to the mic and exhorted us about the power of praise. Praising God puts us in position to see Him rightly, as He really is, and it sets us free like no earthly thing can. The church was moved, and we took a moment to let loose and clap and shout. It was an awesome time, and was a great segue into All of my Life. Jonathan Shipman led that one, and we stayed there for the rest of the worship time, commiting our lives to the Lord and opening our hearts to hear His voice.
The crew that spent the last ten or so days on a missions trip to the Philippines shared about their trip today. Great slideshows and stories; funny and moving. After everyone had a chance to share, Tom spoke for a few minutes from the end of Matthew 28: the Great Commission. We love the nations because God does, and we go and make disciples because Jesus asks it. Not everyone can go, necessarily; but we all need to have God's heart and His concern for all the earth. It was a great morning!
Sounds like an awesome time - thanks Ruth! To read about what happened in worship this week at churches all over the place, see Fred McKinnon's Sunday Setlist worship blog. Have a great week!
